MICHAEL PODOGIL was born in 1985 in Vienna. While he was studying at the Technical University of Vienna, he accomplished small film projects and attended Rockport International Film School in Rockport, Maine (USA). In 2009 he was accepted into Vienna Film Academy where Michael earned his second bachelor’s degree in the class of Michael Haneke.

His short films won prizes at festivals around the world. In 2015 he was awarded the prestigious CARL MAYER-FÖRDERPREIS — one of Austria’s most important scriptwriting awards — at the Diagonale Graz. Michael’s short film »FUCKING DRAMA« received a nomination for Best Live Action at the 2017 BAFTA Student Film Awards in Los Angeles. 2018 he won the prestigious 13th Street Shocking Shorts at the film festival Munich.

During his time at the Film Academy, he worked with Austria’s National Theatre, the Burgtheater, and started teaching Film and Photography at a local secondary school. He also got hired to direct several ads, where he was able to refine his skills in a commercial setting.

After co-writing and directing his first mini TV series, »Prost Mortem«, which got nominated at the Jupiter Awards 2020 for BEST NATIONAL TV SHOW in Germany, he directed the third season of »Meiberger«, starring Fritz Karl and Cornelius Obonya, and a year later the series’s spin-off feature film »Mörderisches Klassentreffen«.

His latest TV project, »DER METZGER traut sich«, starring Simon Schwarz, premiered as the opening film at Filmfestival Kitzbühel and is nominated at TeleVisionale Baden-Baden for TELEVISION FILM AWARD 2023.
